“FROM THE FIREHOUSE TO THE FIRE FLOOR”

The Firehouse to the fire floor covers the pre fire aspect of firefighting. What needs to be done before the alarm sounds. It includes a look at the American fire service, fire house life, training issues, and the P.A.T.H. to being successful.
The 5 Point size-up, or BELOW, takes the 13 point size-up most of us use and narrows it down to the most critical points that a first to arrive Officer must address with their company. The fire building is looked at by type construction as well as by occupancy. Smoke and fire conditions are observed and “read” to gather information to determine how to attack and subdue the fire. Engine and truck operations are also covered.
Finally, the suburban firefighting class takes a look at our most common fires and discusses pre planning, training, setting up of apparatus and operations based on staffing of 3 and 4 per unit.

Bob Pressler has been involved in the Fire Service for over 37 years and is retired from the Fire Department of New York, where he had attained the rank of Lieutenant. Bob currently serves as the 2nd Assistant Chief of the Montgomery, NY Volunteer Fire Department. He holds an Associates’ degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Bob was the Hands on Coordinator for the Fire Department Instructors Conference for its first 7 years in Indianapolis, Indiana, and 3 years in Sacramento, California.  He is a past member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of both Fire Chief and Fire Engineering magazine. He has spoken at the FDIC and Firehouse Expo, Firehouse World, and Firehouse Las Vegas. Bob has written numerous articles for several trade magazines and lectures around the country on a wide variety of Fire Service issues.
